Job Summary

The Shop Technician is an entry level position within AMT that assists the machinist and other technicians with many labor-intensive responsibilities.  Shop Technicians may receive additional responsibilities in specific processes including, but not limited to, basic manual and CNC machine operation, passivation, basic laser marking, and clean packaging as trained and qualified.

Essential Job Functions

Specialized Job Functions:

  • Follow all work instructions, processes, and procedures as trained and assigned.
  • Productively work within qualified duties.
  • Maintain logs and documentation where required.
  • Follow Finishing Processes & work instructions.
  • Follow Non-conformance processes.
  • Follow all Quality Assurance processes and instructions.
  • Comply with all ISO/ QMS and Safety requirements.
  • Finish product as necessary. 
  • Perform light maintenance of equipment as needed.
  • Detect faulty processes and provide input for their resolution.
  • Demonstrate proper and safe operation of equipment.
  • Other duties as qualified and/or assigned.

General Job Functions:

  • Responsible for the setup, maintenance, and tear down of work areas, equipment and materials; keeps work area neat and tidy. Organizes such materials and equipment, data, and workflow to ensure job requirements are achieved.
  • Read, interpret, and adhere to work instructions, regulations, manuals, and quality procedures.
  • Properly operate, maintain, and store mechanical tools and equipment required to perform the job.
  • Report job status to the supervisor including any malfunctions, non-conformances, damaged equipment, or other obstacles to production.
  • Ensure the on-time completion of tasks and reviews work for quality and completeness. 
  • Take into consideration and participates in activities which fulfill compliance requirements to the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Quality Standards and the Quality Manual, as applicable.
  • Demonstrate clear and effective communication, both verbal and written. Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate paperwork as required, including job reports, timekeeping records, etc.
  • Adhere to all applicable environmental, safety and health, and operations procedures and directives, including the proper use of personal protective equipment following manufacturer specifications, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and company guidelines.  
  • Ensure and promote safe work practices and rectify job site hazards, including clean work areas. 
  • Read, understand, and interpret the lockout/tag-out indicators in the work area.  
  • Know, understand, and adhere to organizational policies and procedures; align with and represents the mission, vision, and core values. 
  • Regularly report to work on time, maintain acceptable attendance requirements, and work overtime as required. 
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

  • Ability to work overtime when mandated.
  • Demonstrated abilities in problem-solving, critical thinking, and mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and basic geometry).
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. 
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required. 
  • Working command of the English language with ability to communicate orally and in writing.  

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Knowledge and Experience

Required Knowledge and Experience 

  • 0-2 Years (L1), 2-5 Years (L2), 5-8 Years (L3), 8+ Years (L4) of experience in a related job role.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including an internship in relevant trade.  

Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED or trade/technical certification.
  • Experience working in manufacturing with trade terminology and nomenclature.
  • Experience reading blueprints and using precision measuring equipment.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Possess and demonstrate a thorough understanding and a working knowledge of all phases of the job.

Physical/Mental Involvement & Environmental Factors

Physical Requirements: While performing this job's duties, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, bend, crouch, crawl, and twist. Reach, push, and pull with hands and arms.  Lift to 50 pounds.  Talk and hear, both in person and by telephone.

Mental Requirements: Employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions, and interact with staff, the public.

Working Conditions: 100% of work takes place inside an industrial office/warehouse environment.  Employees work in proximity to moving machinery, mechanical parts, and vehicles and may have exposure to prolonged loud noise, including sirens, horns, and tooling.  Employees may handle hazardous material or have exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, biological hazards, and airborne fumes. The noise level is usually mild to moderate 75% of the time.
