Job Summary

The Manufacturing Manager oversees and coordinates all areas of manufacturing and is responsible for meeting objectives in accordance with production and delivery schedules. Through the direction and supervision of process and group leaders, the Manufacturing Manager ensures that products meet quality, economical, and quantity requirements. This role must also maintain a safe facility environment and develop a workforce capable of meeting short-term and long-term manufacturing objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Participates in planning the use of facilities, equipment, and personnel to meet current and future manufacturing requirements, including department budgets and guidelines, plant layout, improvements, and capital expenditure programs.
  2. Develops and maintains an effective organization through selection, training, development, engagement, and motivation of assigned personnel. Conducts reviews on a timely basis.
  3. Monitors and accurately updates the production schedule and notifies other members of production of any issues and concerns.
  4. Works with other departments in the development of product specifications.
  5. Develops capacity plans to project manpower requirements of or meeting the production commitment.
  6. Reviews the manufacturing requirements with Applications Engineering and provides input on hours and feasibility of project plans.
  7. Participates in on-site meetings with customers when required.
  8. Establishes and develops lead personnel for all manufacturing departments to manage day-to-day activities.
  9. Delegates responsibilities and appropriate authority to subordinate supervisory and staff personnel to achieve maximum efficiency through proper use of skills, man-hours, machines, and equipment.
  10. Continuously monitors industry trends and provides critical updates to management staff.
  11. Recommends and plans manufacturing strategies and use of resources including outsourcing, technology upgrades, and training.
  12. Develops policies, company safety programs, and procedures related to manufacturing and ensures consistent implementation of these policies and procedures. Issues warnings for violations and administers disciplinary measures when necessary.
  13. Plays an instrumental role in the development of short and long-term goals for the organization and participates in management meetings to assist in planning matters related to manufacturing and maintenance operations.
  14. Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. 
  15. Conducts safety training for shop associates and prepares and submits required safety documents and reports.
  16. Develops procedures for improving process, maximizing resource utilization, and develops and maintains appropriate resource and material schedules.
  17. Participates in and assists with continuous improvement activities related, but not limited, to ergonomics, ISO, Safety, 5S, and lean manufacturing.
  18. Performs all other duties and responsibilities, as required.

Supervise/manage/direct the selection, training, development, appraisal and work assignments of personnel. General Direction: receive very general guidance with respect to overall objectives. work is usually quite independent of others. operate within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university. or one to two years related experience and/or training. or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required 5-7 years.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
