Description

The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for developing the manufacturing drawing packages for all customer orders. He/She will use computer aided design and drafting (CAD) techniques to prepare drawings, diagrams, illustrations and schematics for product documentation/literature and all types of publications for the support of Product, Manufacturing, and Applications Engineering projects as required.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and release engineering drawing packages, complete with BOM’s, to manufacturing for all customer orders
  • Specify and select all components needed to produce a complete assembly
  • Provide drawings of all fabrication and assembly items required for manufacturing to produce a complete product per the required quality standards
  • Develop integrated 3-D models of assemblies
  • Develop and physically enter all BOM’s into software while maintaining high level of accuracy and selecting items in accordance with applicable project specifications
  • Work with shop floor team members as needed to answer questions and ensure that all assembled products are produced correctly the first time
  • Maintain internal drawing file system
  • Work with external customers and suppliers, dependent upon project activities
  • Render new product concept illustrations from free-hand sketches or marketing or engineering input. Make suggestions to product committee on various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions
  • Prepare new or improved product and component documents for engineering and manufacturing including 3D models, assembly and detail drawings. This can also include development of drawings for special tools, fixtures, process and test equipment
  • Create product or component illustrations including block diagrams, schematics, isometric illustrations, orthographic illustrations and three-dimensional perspective illustrations for use in marketing literature, manuals and sales video presentations
  • Create exploded-view drawings for operation, service and assembly manuals from product and component detail drawings and bill of materials in accordance with operating/set-up instructions or assembly/disassembly breakdowns
  • Observe, as appropriate, UL, ASME, PED, SELO, CE and other US and international standards for mechanical design
  • Work closely with Electrical Engineering to ensure the final system design is complete and will provide the desired functionality
  • Work closely with purchasing to obtain vendor quotes, create bills of materials, review component options and expedite shipment
  • Review and checkout completed mechanical assemblies


Requirements

  • Must have a high level of proficiency with AutoCAD – including three-dimensional model creation
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working as a mechanical designer
  • Experience designing steel tanks, fluid pumping systems and wiring systems preferred
  • Must know how to read process flow diagrams; blueprint reading is a plus
  • Ability to incorporate technical expertise and industry understanding into your role
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and team members
