Facilities Maintenance – Cleaner

BASIC PURPOSE: 

Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, the Facilities Maintenance/Cleaner plays an important role in ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and excellent appearance of the facilities, consisting of offices, aircraft hangar, aircraft ramp and vehicle parking lot.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Undertake the frequent cleaning of all interior and exterior facility areas including daily sweeping and vacuuming of all offices, Customer area and conference rooms; also cleaning of lavatories; hangar and ramp area; stores; back-shop and canteen areas; parking area.
  • Empty all waste bins and replace all bin liners. 
  • Removal of cob webs and dusting of furnishings daily as well as cleaning all glass doors and windows. 
  • Clean kitchen sink as well as wiping the counter tops and cleaning coffee maker and refrigerator.  Maintain the cleanliness of the common lunch room, by emptying trash bins, cleaning all microwaves, as well as wiping all the tables.
  • Sweep, mop and wax all non-carpeted floor surfaces, including the hangar floor. 
  • Undertake frequent cleaning all bathrooms, toilets, hand basins, mirrors. Refill all soap and paper dispensers. Clean all areas assigned. Ensure that all rooms are odor free. Repair any broken fixtures so they can be repaired or changed.
  • Clean and sweep all outside areas and empty cigarette bins. Maintain the air filters as well as the water fountain filters.
  • Dispose of trash into large sanitary containers.
  • Ensure that the appropriate caution signs such as “Wet Floor” are put in place prior to commencing cleaning in order to avoid accidents and injury.
  • Assist in placing adequate orders for the acquisition of cleaning and other sanitation supplies.
  • Carry out “handy-man” type maintenance and repair tasks. 
  • Conduct other duties as assigned as it relates to building maintenance.
  • Act in a cordial, respectful and professional manner.
  • Ensure that tools and equipment are correctly used and stored away properly both safety and good housekeeping, also to reduce breakages, wear and tear. Report any tool malfunction promptly to the Stores with supporting documentation as per the Company’s processes.

 

DIMENSIONS: 

Approximate facilities area: Office 15,000 sq.ft; Hangar 85,000 sq. ft; Stores 20,000 sq. ft; Parking 31,000 sq. ft.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE: 

All areas are under continuous operational use and therefore require frequent housekeeping to ensure the facilities are clean, tidy and a safe environment in which to work.

 

 KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma/GED and OJT preferred.

EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years in similar environment. 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 

Must know how to operate and maintain all cleaning equipment including but not limited to, the Hydro-Genie Retriever, floor waxing equipment and forklift. Knowledge and experience in Handyman work-basic painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, pest control and masonry.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • The work is performed in the interior and exterior of facilities.
  • Requires frequent walking, standing and/or climbing.     
  • Expected to work through specially designed airframe, engine and undercarriage openings while standing on ladders or scaffolds; to use hoists and lifts; required precision instruments and other necessary tools.
  • Exposure to climate changes normally experienced in an aviation repair facility.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, days and nights, holidays, weekends, and overtime
