Infinera is a global supplier of innovative networking solutions. Our customers include the leading service providers, data center operators, internet content providers (ICPs), cable operators, enterprises, and government agencies worldwide, including 9 of the top 10 Tier 1 service providers and 6 of the top 7 ICPs. We design, develop and deliver hardware and software for fiber-based connectivity solutions that span access, aggregation, metro, long haul, and submarine network. Our industry-leading, trendsetting edge-to-core solutions provide the foundation for many of the world’s largest and most demanding networks that generate billions in service revenue for our customers.
Infinera is committed to developing high capacity transport and routable subcarrier edge network solutions. The successful candidate will work within the PIC design and engineering team and engage in simulation, data analysis and lead product development from reliable design concepts, performance verification and optimization and transfer to manufacturing. The broad job responsibilities include the hands-on work in the design of high speed integrated photonic components, implementing the designs through the fab and testing the resulting circuits to verify performance. Experience in several of the key areas listed below is required.
In this role, the candidate will be working in a high caliber team to develop the next generation optical modem at the highest data rate and capacity. You must be comfortable with complex physical layer simulation using Matlab and C as well as strong in digital communication theory. Our technical challenges will challenge the brightest of minds!
Your Key Responsibilities Would Include
- Work on optical transport systems and evaluate system performance via analysis and computer simulations.
- Work closely with an ASIC team to design DSP algorithms to implement in a coherent modem ASIC.
- Apply communications theory and digital signal processing techniques to explore various modulation formats, equalization methods and control loop algorithms for optical modems.
- May need to work on nonlinear compensation and mitigation techniques to reduce the propagation penalty through fiber.
- May get involved with FEC work.
- Need to contribute to firmware development for coherent modem ASIC when needed.
Education & Experience Necessary For Success
- Ph.D. in EE or equivalent field with solid communications background;
- 5+ years of practical or research/theoretical experience in data communications in the physical layer;
- Understanding of fiber optic channel, modem impairments and real-time implementation of optical transmission systems.
- Experience with computer simulations of communication systems in the physical layer;
- Excellent knowledge of Matlab and C/C++, and comfortable with writing complex simulation codes and debugging;
- Prior practical or research/theoretical experience with digital signal processing;
- Experience with control loops and digital equalization;
- Knowledge in FEC and coding theory is desirable;
- Laboratory experience working with real-time optical system is desirable;
- Some RTL/Verilog knowledge would be an asset, but not a requirement.
