Mechanical Inspection Supervisor
PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Mechanical Inspection Supervisor to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.
The Mechanical Inspection Supervisor role leads a team of Inspectors who provide technical/maintenance support for refinery machinery which includes pumps, compressors, motors, turbines, blowers, fans, and MOVs. The Supervisor may also, at times, provide direct unit coverage. This role supports the objectives of the Reliability program by be accountable for executing tactics such as mentoring craftspeople, providing technical assurance in field and outside shops, developing repair scopes, and conducting troubleshooting and root cause analysis to minimize production downtime and associated maintenance costs. The successful candidate champions equipment reliability, quality assurance, and safe operations.
Job Responsibilities May Include:
- Be a safety leader – ensure safe practices are applied around machine repair and troubleshooting by both direct employees and contract personnel
- Supervise a team of four to eight mechanical inspectors
- Lead and mentor the team – develop the team’s technical and personal effectiveness skills. Assess strengths and weaknesses and develop plans to address any gaps.
- Prioritize and set direction for inspectors and facilitate their goal-setting process to ensure alignment with department and site goals.
- Recruit, interview, and help select new team members as the need arises
- Manage team on-call responsibilities, mentoring the team to increase their skill and knowledge set to be more self-sufficient when callouts are made for mechanical support
- Champion condition monitoring and equipment surveillance programs
- Provide guidance to operations and arrange training to drive ownership, understanding, and improvement of equipment operation.
- Provide advanced level of troubleshooting when the area inspectors cannot resolve an issue or need a second opinion. Apply learnings across the site as appropriate.
- Review failure analysis reports prepared by team members to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide ownership and technical leadership for the evergreening of Reliability Centered Maintenance activities, working with the inspectors and engineers to drive improvements
- Work with outside shops to ensure regulatory, industry, and corporate standards are being met
- Assist the organization in reviewing inspector bad actor lists and ensuring the highest priority are resourced
Position Specific Requirements:
- Work Schedule:
- Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis.
- During occasional high maintenance events (TA, Project Execution, Overhauls) an altered work schedule over an extended period may be required.
- Participate in department duty rotation program to provide off-hours technical support
- Physical Requirements:
- Wear appropriate PPE in refinery (respirator, arc flash gear)
- Walk up and down stairs
- Climb ladders
- Lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Possess a valid Driver’s License

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- 5+ years of machinery inspection or equivalent field quality assurance/control experience
- 5+ years as millwright/machinist in a petrochemical or refinery facility.
- 10+ years of refinery/petrochemical or relevant industry experience
- Vibration Level I certification
- Familiarity with API codes and recommended practices on machinery design, installation, and testing.
- Working knowledge of machinery repair standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- SME level experience in Condition Monitoring (e.g., data analysis, vibration analysis, reciprocating compressor analysis, lube oil analysis).
- Vibration Level II certification
- Proficiency with SAP, SKF, Bently Nevada, and Microsoft Office software programs
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage technical documentation effectively
- Proficient in troubleshooting techniques to solve machine issues
- Demonstrated strong leadership capabilities and behaviors, building shared reliability vision across all levels of the organization

The salary range for this position is $101,702.39 - $180,479.24. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
