What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you, as a member of the Engineering leadership team, you will work hand in hand with the capital project team to deliver robust equipment, maintenance plans, and processes to operate the new plant. This includes hiring, and training of the staff required to support start up and 24/7 manufacturing and facility operations of the plant and oversight of operational readiness initiatives.

  • Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Sr Manager will provide technical leadership to a team of Utility and Discipline engineers supporting commercial production operations with emphasis on Drug Substance bioprocessing equipment.
  • Establish clear expectations and priorities to staff. Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, partnership, and knowledge sharing. Provide development opportunities, feedback, and actively listen to staff.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety ensuring the well-being of all staff members and drive efforts to reduce safety risks.
  • Provide technical support to troubleshoot, identify and resolve process and system issues as needed.
  • Prioritize and manage equipment and system start up and qualification.
  • Be knowledgeable about compliance and regulatory aspects for equipment validation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Effectively collaborate with key customers and support groups (e.g. Manufacturing, Quality, Process Development, Maintenance, and network partners).
  • Ensure all tasks and projects are accomplished in a safe manner.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of experience in management and engineering OR
  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience in management and engineering OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience in management and engineering OR
  • Master’s degree and 6 years of experience in management and engineering OR
  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience in management and engineering

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have a minimum of 2 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in chemical engineering or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing support environment with at least 3 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industries.
  • Demonstrated people management/leadership experience.
  • Experience with Plant Utilities (Boilers, Chillers, Electrical, HVAC), Clean Utilities, and Mammalian cell process equipment.
  • Familiarity designing, troubleshooting, and operating equipment manufacturing including disposable technologies.
  • Experience with Tech Transfer, Process Design, and Commissioning & Qualification
  • Experience with validation and change control methodology.
  • Direct experience with regulated environments (i.e. cGMP, OSHA, EPA) including detailed understanding of cGMPs.
  • Position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with minimum direction.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and facilitation skills and ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment.
  • Ability to apply analytical skills to evaluate and interpret sophisticated problems using multiple sources of information.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and embrace a team-based culture.
  • Familiarity with designing and operating equipment used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying Operational Excellence and Lean Manufacturing.
