Mills Manager
Job Summary:
Manage, lead, direct, and provide oversight of the Milling Department. Responsible for department metrics, safety, quality, expense, productivity, and staffing for all shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor all aspects and operation of the milling production area.
- Assure all milling processing equipment is running efficiently and safely.
- Review the thresholds for raw material and finished spices to minimize outages.
- Hold regular staff meetings for communication and feedback.
- Assign personnel to job tasks within the department and cover current milling/safety issues.
- Conduct and/or coordinate hand off meetings for each shift
- Directly manage all aspects of employment life cycle for department staff to include but not be limited to: Interviewing, Selection, Training, Time management, Scheduling, Directing work, Promotions/Status changes, Disciplining, Terminations, Performance management, Monitoring and implementing legal compliance measures.
- Coach and assist personnel in an uplifting, supportive manner.
- Maintain employee morale through consistent feedback and regular performance reviews.
- Ensure the proper level of training is completed to the BRC specifications in all areas of Milling.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects within the Milling department.
- Utilize problem solving skills to prioritize assignments to meet production demand, overcome equipment failure, and work through supply chain shortages.
- Monitor throughput and develop methods to increase efficiency and product yields.
- Identify issues and troubleshoot when product flow is slow or irregular.
- Ensure correct inventory is being processed and stored correctly.
- Reconcile any differences between inventory consumed and product produced on batch card.
- Complete production reports and ensure operator’s paperwork is complete.
- Ensure detailed procedures are followed thoroughly and accurately throughout the department.
- Complete filter changes on a regular basis.
- Ensure dust collectors are checked daily and regularly cleaned out.
- Inspect and examine mills, sifters, and other machine parts prior to starting each run.
- Complete and/or assist operators in machine changeovers; involves changing to multiple appropriate screens.
- Operate forklift.
- Perform Mill Operator duties as needed (during break times/staffing shortages).
- Complete daily logs, paperwork, and product sampling.
- Clean, replace, and examine mills, sifters, and other machine parts.
- Assist with filling storage hoppers and opening slide gates for processing.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field highly preferred
- 2 years’ management experience required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical or manufacturing field required, 5 years’ preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing, preferred
- Forklift Certified
- PCQI Certification preferred
- Requires complete knowledge of machines, products, procedures, and company policies
- Demonstrated success in motivating and building teams
- Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of employees
- Must be self-motivated with strong initiative
- Must have solid decision making and problem-solving skills
- Computer proficiency required; Highly proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must have strong math skills
- Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner
- Flexibility to support and fill in all shifts as needed

- Work in an environment that is dusty and may contain spices with high heat.
