Job Summary
This role is a growth position with the opportunity to become a subject matter expert for Solar’s product security for the control system including the HMI (Human Machine Interface). This position will work within a small team focused on security and will also have interfaces with other controls and software development teams within engineering as well as externally (such as IT). Work for this role will be in a variety of areas:
Development
- Develop or support development of new features to provide enhanced security.
- Support or provide guidance to ensure control system development efforts align with current security best practices with a focus on software development within SPE.
- Provide support in developing and rolling out secure software development processes, documentation & tools to align with IEC62443.
Lifecycle Support
- Conduct standard product security risk assessments and support third party cyber security penetration testing. Help to determine mitigations to risks identified and as applicable develop solutions to mitigate the risks.
- Monitor supplier vulnerabilities. Support the development of required mitigations and the rollout of the mitigations.
- Work with other development teams on lifecycle strategies to ensure current and fielded solutions can meet Solar’s support goals for security updates.
- Provide lifecycle and on-going support for features developed by the security team.
Sales & Project Support
- Review of customer specifications, determination of what requirements can be met with the standard product, what customization might be possible to meet additional requirements and where exceptions must be taken.
- Support project security risk assessments (similar to HAZOP). Explain to customers Solar’s security features, capability and supported configurations.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering with 8+ years of applicable experience, or 12+ years of directly applicable engineering experience without a bachelor's degree
Industrial control system experience OR experience with industrial cyber security (IEC62443)
Software development experience with C++, C# or python
Operating system hardening experience (configuration & security settings)
Ability to develop robust solutions to complex engineering problems
Strong collaboration skills, initiative, communication and demonstrated technical leadership
Top Candidates Have:
Degree in controls, electrical or computer engineering
Understanding of industrial cyber security (IEC62443)
Network architecture experience/understanding
Familiarity with networking tools such as Wireshark or NMAP
Experience with customer/field support
Stipend
A relocation stipend will also be provided. The stipend amount is based on your move distance, family size, and homeownership, according to Solar's policy. You will receive the taxable relocation stipend with your first paycheck.

Summary Pay Range:
$117,940.00 - $176,910.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
