Buyer 

 

We are seeking a professional, positive, and experienced Buyer to join our talented Strategic Sourcing Team. Best candidate is decisive, accountable and thrives in a fast-moving position. Buyer will drive constant improvement, be curious, manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and thrive in this position. Responsibilities include negotiating, contracting and purchasing materials, equipment and supplies from vendors. Buyer is responsible for Supplier relationships, PO accuracy, on time delivery, and financial acumen.

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for the timely procurement of materials and supplies to meet requirements of the business.
  • Reviews all requisitions for accuracy and necessity and insures proper authorized spending limits.
  • Prepares RFQS and obtains competitive bids to assure best price and availability from multiple sources.
  • Negotiate PO terms including but not limited to pricing, delivery, lead-time and credit terms with vendors.
  • Collaborate with strategic sourcing to identify new vendors and participate in the vendor certification process.
  • Provide performance feedback to the Strategic Sourcing Specialist on vendor quality and delivery performance.
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain Quality Engineer to process parts through the RTV process.
  • Assist the factory and production scheduling team through effective communication of supply variation and risk mitigation.
  • Assists in resolving quality problems with vendor supplied materials, works with receiving department and supplier to resolve shipping discrepancies, and coordinates any material return for reword or credit.
  • Manages vendor relationship, acts as focal point for external vendor communication.
  • Responsible for constant cost reductions and fulfillment of supplier obligations.
  • Supports Sr. Buyer Lead to negotiate and manager vendor replenishment agreements to minimize buy quantities and inventory investment.
  • Supports the purchase of company-wide supplies based on approved purchase order requests.
  • Coordinates the transfer of supplier communications to the requisitioner.
  • Supports the development and on-going reporting of key performance metrics.
  • Initiates improvement projects to continuously reduce cost and raise performance within the function.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or other Business related degree, and 5-6 years of experience as a Buyer in a manufacturing environment is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • APICS certification a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to use MPR system for planning, purchasing, and inventory management. Strong understanding of MPR logic.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, balancing conflicting priorities and resource constrains.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles for inventory valuation.
  • Solid understanding of flow principles, including kanbans, daily rates, point of use material, cycle time, replenishment systems, line balancing, backflush, etc.
  • Excellent PC skills: ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail.

Working Conditions:

  • Working Environment: Office Position
  • Physical Demands: Lifting up to 25 lbs., sitting and talking on the phone and computer for long periods of time.   
  • Travel Requirements:   As needed, less than 5% of the time.
