Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Process Improvement Engineer will contribute to launching new programs, implement process improvements, work to continuously improve casting quality, maintain manufacturing certifications, and cooperate with customers to deliver premium casting products.

ESENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with customers, internal and external pattern shops, the engineering team, and other Eck personnel, as needed, to develop new programs and improve existing programs.
  • Create new job process controls.
  • Work with the production supervisors and production workers to assess and refine production processes for each new job, changes to existing jobs, with the goal of mitigating/eliminating defects.
  • Review design plans, process procedures, test procedures, and quality manuals to understand the scope, requirements, and function of products.
  • Ensure products meet the organization’s and customers’ quality and product integrity requirements.
  • Plan activities to assure product conformance and act quickly and effectively when non-conformances are found to resolve issues.
  • Supports product development or operations team by providing analysis and expertise throughout the inspection process.
  • Plan and direct activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for casting processes, materials, and products.
  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Assist in maintaining quality system requirements and ensure that documented practices meet the quality management system standards.
  • Identifies root causes of problems in the production process; recommends and/or implements corrective measures.
  • Analyzes data to identify trends in product quality or defects with the goal of mitigating and preventing recurrence and future defects.
  • Perform process analysis using statistical tools such as process capability studies, machine capability studies, gage repeatability and experimental design.
  • Assist production and supports employees with quality issues when necessary.
  • Work with Inspection and Quality Assurance to investigate scrapped components for process issues.
  • Help ensure Eck’s readiness for all internal and external quality audits.
  • Capable of performing and leading on-site audits of potential and existing suppliers.
  • Issue, resolve, and maintain corrective action documents with suppliers on a timely basis.
  • Oversee the controlled document system, to include a final review of all changes to procedures, work instructions, forms, master lists and other associated documents to ensure quality certification requirements are met.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to serve as a liaison with developers, project managers, and customer support.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials science engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline required.

1 to 5 years of metals industry engineering experience preferred but not required.
