The Systems Engineering Design and Architecture Air and Naval Power department has an immediate opening for the role of NSM Development Chief Engineer, reporting directly to the Portfolio Chief Engineer. The Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Program is currently on-contract for both Production and Development activities with the USN and USMC respectively, together with the recent acquisition of an FMS activity. In this role, certification as a Level 4 Chief Engineer (within RMD) or equivalent demonstrated CE Certification is required to ensure that RMD CE values and behaviors can be applied daily to this diverse and complex portfolio. The Systems Design and Architecture organization is searching for a candidate with a passion for Autonomous Systems to design, develop, and field, open, trusted, secure, certified, and operationally effective collaborative autonomous solutions. This position is onsite in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do
Technical baseline establishment, roadmap development, customer engagement, product development and proposal development across the program.
Program lifecycles including Production and Field Support, Engineering and Manufacturing Development (E&MD), Transition to Production, and internal investment (IR&D, Capital) efforts.
Primary product technical contact for the Customer's Senior Engineering / Technical counterparts providing analysis, responding to technical inquires in a timely manner, and establishing boundaries while balancing Customer satisfaction levels to mitigate risk of taking on tasking outside of the contractual scope
Chair of the Engineering Review, Configuration Control Board, and Failure Review Boards for development and production efforts
ITAR / Export Control Compliance
Collaboration with International Partners in shaping design solutions to resolve obsolescence issues
Represent and ensure compliance to Configuration management practices
Ability to lead across a highly multi-disciplinary role, requiring experience across all design engineering disciplines, technical supplier management, business development, and program leadership
Management of budgets, staffing, and risk.
Expected to travel 25% of the time, including internationally
Qualifications You Must Have
Certification of Level 4 Chief Engineer or Participation in the Chief Engineer Development Program
Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
Ten (10) years of experience in one or more of the following technical domains:
Systems engineering, architecture, and/or design
System performance and analysis
Algorithms and signal processing
Electronics (circuit card assemblies, subassemblies, complete systems)
Navigation (GPS or Inertial)
Autopilots
Modeling and simulation (for example 6-DOF)
Mission planning and analysis
Aerodynamics
Flight control systems
Warheads, propulsion, or other energetic systems and subsystems
High power or directed energy systems or subsystems
Airframe structures
Sensor sub-systems
Communication systems or subsystems
Software architecture, design, development, integration and verification
Configurable Logic / Firmware / VHDL architecture, design, development, integration and verification
Eight (8) years of systems engineering experience with exposure in at least four of the following:
Interfacing with customers
Developing CONOPS
Capture Engineering
Developing & Refining System Architecture
Developing & Refining System Requirements
Performing Functional & Physical Analyses
Performing Functional Allocation
Creating & Maintaining Models (SysML)
Creating & Maintaining Specifications
Developing Requirements Verification Strategies and Plans
Developing Integrated Systems Security Solutions
Subassembly Integration & Verification
System Integration & Verification
Supporting System Deployment
Supporting Production
Supporting Life-cycle Logistics
Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
MS or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or Physics
Experience transitioning a program from development to production
Understanding of Systems Engineering Product Development Cycle
Familiarity with system safety, reliability, and configuration management
Experience evaluating and mitigating technical risks
