Our Wagerup Refinery is looking for suitably qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. The working roster is a day role Monday through Friday, with one leisure day every four-week period - one of the ways we encourage a work-life balance.

You will play a key part in supporting our Refinery through:

  • Ensuring the equipment is running as designed.

  • Provide mechanical engineering support to the operation and maintenance departments.

  • Troubleshoot day-to-day machinery defects.

  • Lead design changes and liaised with engineering consultants and suppliers.

  • Write repair scope of works for major overhauls of equipment.

  • Being a catalyst and contributing to improvements in Operation Area performance in both the short and long term.

Your role as a Mechanical Engineer will be challenging and diverse, and require a strong customer focus with contribution to:

  • Leading 5-why, fishbone, or fault tree root cause analysis investigation for major failures and followed with the strip-down analysis.

  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment.

  • Write a scope of work that meets the Australia and Alcoa standards for Ad-Hoc repair and major overhaul.

  • Ensure critical equipment spare parts are in the BOM and recommend Min /Max number for stock holding.

  • Assist the Maintenance department with yearly budget.

  • Liaise with external engineering consultants for any design change or improvement projects.

  • Ensure equipment meets safety compliance requirements.

  • Working alongside with reliability engineer to identify bad actors in the plant and develop action plans to improve performance.

  • Involvement with Capital Projects, and

  • Safety leadership; the corner stone of Alcoa operations!

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering that is recognised by Engineers Australia, with previous experience in maintenance, reliability, heavy industry or plant engineering highly regarded.

  • An understanding of risk management, quality improvement and reliability excellence processes.

  • The ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation, crucial within our dynamic and diverse team environment.

  • A sound track record in pro-active problem solving with your use of initiative and a desire to continuously improve business performance.

  • An ability to prioritise a high work load and persevere through daily challenges.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience in pumps, thickeners, tanks and other mining machinery will be advantageous.

  • Well-versed in Australian standards.
