Description
The Shipping and Receiving Associate I is a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual working in an aerospace manufacturing company. The role involves various tasks related to receiving, storing, moving, and shipping both internal and external orders. The associate operates in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities, handling and shipping hazardous materials, and using forklifts to ensure efficient material and product flow within the organization. The work entails utilizing computer-based systems and interfaces, manual labor, and handling substantial amounts of paperwork. The associate actively processes shipments, often employing hand tools and manual or automated machines. They will gain experience from reading work instructions, performing computer transactions, and collecting data. Following standard work methods and practicing safe work habits are essential to ensure efficiency, high quality, and safety. The associate inspects and measures shipments and paperwork to ensure compliance with customer, industry, and federal regulations. Collaboration with individuals and teams is crucial, and the associate contributes to the development of action plans, process documentation, and conflict resolution to foster teamwork, collaboration, and learning.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Must possess intermediate to advanced computer navigation skills.
- Must possess basic Microsoft Office knowledge and skills.
- Must be able to type 40+ words per minute.
- Must have a basic understanding of warehouse practices.
- Must be able read, write, and verbally communicate in English.
- Must be able to obtain a forklift certification in a timely manner.
- After training, must be able to perform duties from recall, written instructions, and visual aids.
- Must be able to use and be familiar with measuring tools, interpret visual aids, and perform statistical mathematics and metric conversions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED).
- General warehousing and shipping experience is a plus.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This is not a supervisory position.

- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 50+ pounds with the assistance of proper machinery.
- Regularly sit, stand, bend, and reach for the duration of the shift.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
- Continuously use hands/fingers throughout the shift to manipulate components, tools, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
- Protective eyewear and/or hearing are required when near or in a production area.

- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Frequent walking through the production facility and to various departments.
- Usually work indoors but must spend time outdoors exposed to weather, while loading/unloading trucks and delivering materials to appropriate departments.
- Operates forklift.
- Required to handle and ship hazardous materials.
- Fast-paced environment; needs to work under pressure with effective time management.
- Shares workspace with others.
- May work at different workstations or different buildings as needed or shift from one station to another during the duration of the shift.
