HSE Advisor – Alaska Directional
The HSE Advisor is responsible for the success of Alaska Directional's safety program, in accordance with all company, EPA and OSHA requirements. This position requires basic sampling, testing, training, documentation, employee mentoring, auditing and record keeping for Alaska Directional employees and projects including: client courses, safety training, and atmospheric detection equipment.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Implement and maintain company safety programs.
- Assist in continually forming and complying with all guidelines, policies and procedures established by the company.
- Schedule, oversee and conduct training courses in compliance with OSHA and client course standards.
- Track employee records and ensure that all employees are compliant and up to date on all HSE and training requirements.
- Audit client jobsites for hazard recognition and evaluate hazard mitigation techniques as it relates to personnel and health concerns.
- Audit company specific THA’s on a regular basis to ensure they are being completed in accordance with client and company HSE standards and protocols.
- Active involvement with case management of all injuries, incidents, spills, and equipment damage.
- Compile documentation, lead incident investigation, and determine root causes as needed by company and client.
- Responsible for being involved with investigations, witness statements, incident reports and communications with client.
- Communicate daily with company employees and clientele.
- Maintain 100% “Compliance Readiness” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements.
- Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:
- Compliance with required HSE training.
- Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
- Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly.
Facilitate / Lead weekly safety meetings. - Perform Jobsite walk-downs with the foreman to provide a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for the work to be completed.
- Ensure hazard identification, scope of work steps or phases and job staffing are communicated and documented in the JSA.
- Ensure proper signatures and facilitation of the JSA roll out at appropriate work locations.
- Maintain and demonstrate proficient working knowledge of all response-related equipment, policies and procedures at all times.
- Maintain legible and accurate records such as training rosters.
- Facilitate client risk assessment processes for company projects.
- Must be comfortable with speaking to personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Ensure that safety is visible in the field by performing site visits.
- Encourage crew members to do STEPBACK observations along with safety related activities in the field such as THA audits, safety observations/discussions and mentoring/coaching company employees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be able to organize and facilitate group meetings.
- Ability to clearly speak, write, read and understand the English language.
- Must have excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills that include good listening, providing clear direction and effective feedback.
- Extensive computer experience, including the ability to administer online training, generate data analysis reports and use Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency tests in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint may be administered during the final stages of the interview process to validate candidate’s skill in each area.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely in a small office environment.
- Knowledge of company HSE interdepartmental processes and procedures.
