NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.  

 

We are looking for a seasonal Micro Technician to analyze all products throughout the Pouch and Industrial process to confirm products are commercially sterile and meet USDA/FDA guidelines. This role will be responsible for conducting root cause analysis and providing timely feedback with solutions to Operations and Quality teams of nonconformance products/processes at our TomaTek plant in Firebaugh, CA. This is a seasonal, union position, supporting our fresh pack season, typically June – October.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Performs and understands microbe activity trends on the BacT/Alert system graphs and observation (OB) flasks and provide necessary feedback to Quality Managers.
  • Conducts media, buffer, and chemical preparation for inoculation and testing; conducts petri film plating (Aerobic, Yeast, and Mold).
  • Responsible to understand microbial cell identification (yeast, mold, bacillus, and cocci) utilizing a microscope.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Policies (GMPs) and ensures that proper safety equipment is being worn: glove, safety glasses, and earplugs.
  • Maintains all required Micro lab documentation.

 

Requirements: 

  • Requires a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED), or at least one-year relevant experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Requires the ability to conduct mass and volume conversions and other calculations by utilizing addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and averaging.
  • Requires the ability to read, write, and speak English to perform essential duties and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Requires reliability and an excellent attendance record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, work extended hours, weekends, and any shift assigned during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October. 

 

Compensation: 

The hourly union wage is $16, with a 2nd shift differential of $.25 and a 3rd shift differential of $.50, based on experience and qualifications.
