SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under minimal direction, provides the strategic and hands-on direction for plant staff ensuring safety, productivity, quality, inventory, and on-time delivery of all work and projects assigned to a plant. Plans, directs, and coordinates all manufacturing and related service functions, including quality, manufacturing engineering, production planning, materials, production, maintenance, and facilities with dotted line relationships with Human Resources, Finance Product/Design Engineering and Information Technology.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage and direct the Plant operations to ensure most efficient uses of personnel and equipment.
- Partner with HR to attract, train, and retain high-quality, high-performing workforce. Provides timely and thorough evaluations and appraisals to ensure a productive, adequately trained work force.
- Develop and maintain production schedules and effective quality procedures to meet schedules.
- Responsible for the facility capital/operating budgets and staffing requirements. Establish operating policies and procedures. Develop, establish and implement short and long-range manufacturing strategic plans and operating policies.
- Establish and attain highly competitive performance goals in areas such as safety, quality, delivery, cost, inventory, and flexibility; ensuring the organization achieves such goals.
- Develop/utilize prompt, accurate reporting systems and methods to include safety, labor, efficiency, schedule performance, quality performance and budget control; monitor against plans and objectives.
- Provide leadership to all direct reports including frequent feedback, coaching, and skill development while actively supporting a climate of continuous learning, keeping staff members informed of critical information.
- Promote highest level of teamwork achieving synergy and instill a business-purpose mentality and effectively eliminate functional boundaries.
- In conjunction with the COO and peers, develop and maintain advanced and leading edge capabilities in areas identified as key to the future success of the company.
- Manage use of total assets including capital and inventory to maximize Return on Assets.
- Ensure thorough familiarity with policies and procedures relating to standards of business conduct; train and motivate staff members in the importance of full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies and procedures.
- Conduct tasks in accordance with applicable legal, health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations, including ISO, as well as Maysteel policies and procedures.
- Participate as a key Management Representative in labor relations and contract negotiations in a unionized facility.
- Interact with other Maysteel plants to share best practices and utilize resources that makes Maysteel better.
- Support Maysteel customers by providing plant tours and engaging in conversations and activities that improve the customer experience.
- Drive lean Manufactuing continuous improvement activities to improve operational KPIs.
- Utilize technology to support operational improvements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering or Operations Management; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced education and/or certification, such as a Master’s Degree or APICS certification, is a definite asset. Education and experience with Lean Manufacturing principles are essential to success. A minimum of eight (8) years experience in the areas of production, operations management, purchasing and/or continuous quality improvement is required.
The incumbent must possess excellent communications skills, be a high-energy problem solver/achiever, be well organized and detail oriented; goal oriented with the ability to manage a team to success.
