GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to oversee Oconee County’s recycling and education programs with the School District of Oconee County, commercial and industrial facilities, and local residents. Maintain and develop new programs to increase recycling awareness and instill excellent recycling principles with residents and institutions. Provide guidance to individuals on where and how they can recycle their waste. The recycling and sustainability coordinator will perform duties of the office manager in their absence.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Responsible for creating, coordinating and growing Oconee County’s Recycling and Sustainable Schools Program including but not limited to coordinating with Keep Oconee Beautiful Association, SC DHEC Action in the Classroom, and performing presentations at career days, events, and for individual classes. Must be willing to interact with kids. Several events are after normal business hours or on Saturdays.
- Maintain and develop partnerships with industrial and commercial facilities, associated groups and organizations to advance and complement existing recycling and sustainability programs and efforts
- Research pricing and buyers for recyclables. Coordinate pickups from buyers.
- Responsible for scheduling, and coordinating day-to-day activities related to Oconee County’s recycling education center and conducting presentations and tours to interested groups or organizations.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of marketing materials, programs, contests, and events aimed at educating and encouraging residential and commercial recycling and waste minimization.
- Assist with the identification, preparation, and implementations of grants to support Organizational recycling and sustainability programs and related efforts.
- Assist with keeping track of recycling markets.
- Responsible for conducting, preparing, and submitting yearly recycling report for DHEC. This requires emailing, calling, texting, mailing or meeting in person to obtain the data for the report. Developing relationships and partnerships to achieve a high rate of return.
- Prepare and maintain reports related to recycling and sustainability programs & related efforts.
- Prepare and maintain weekly, monthly, and yearly reports for C&D, MSW, Mulch and Recyclables tonnage and revenues.
- Assist with developing and driving social media and news-related content associated with Organization’s recycling and sustainability education programs and other related efforts.
- Assist with daily office and scale house operations as needed. This may require Saturday work as well. Operate weigh scale at Solid Waste Complex and Landfill as necessary.
- Represent the Solid Waste Department on organizations such as Keep Oconee Beautiful Association (KOBA), SC Solid Waste Professionals, etc
- Perform duties of the office manager in their absence.

Additional duties include but not limited to:
Assist with other solid waste operations in the absence of other crew leaders and/or staff. Perform duties of the office manager in their absence. Helping maintain office appearance.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Knowledge of the organization's operations, services, and policies;
- Must have strong Microsoft Office skills especially in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong conservation knowledge;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- The educational requirement for this position is: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Education, Marketing and Outreach, Business or another related field
- Education may be substituted for some experience.
- Related-experience required: 5 years.
- Experience may be substituted for education. Experience should be in Education, Marketing and Outreach, Business or other Solid Waste related field.
