General Description:
This position is responsible for coatings inspections in shops and field applications. The Coatings Inspector over sees sandblasting operations, priming, and coating application on large steel components, tanks, and piping. Observes and records weather and atmospheric conditions for compliance with coatings procedures and specifications. Performs wet and dry-film thickness measurements. Assess the coating conditions of piping, components, and tanks.

- Ensure a safe work environment.
- Schedule project inspections in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
- Monitor the application(s) of a variety of industrial coatings.
- Perform extensive plant coating surveys according to client and company procedures and specifications.
- Recommend corrective actions to engineering for evaluation.
- Assess the conditions of internal and external coatings on tanks, piping, and valves.
- Observe and record that blasting operations are following procedures and specifications.
- Ensure that contractor and contractor employees are qualified and in compliance with contract and procedure requirements and knowledgeable of the client specifications.
- Ensure the equipment is function tested and in optimum operating condition for the project.
- Ensure the blasters and coaters are tested and qualified on specific equipment and products to be used on the project.
- Mentor blaster and coaters on procedures, equipment, and specifications.

- Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
- Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.

- Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work well with others in an environment that includes harsh weather conditions, remote locations, and diverse personalities.
- Knowledge of SSPC, NACE, and industry specifications and procedures.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to complete and submit Daily Inspection Reports using Microsoft Office and online software.
- Knowledge of how to operate and use testing equipment.
- Skilled in organization and detail oriented.
- Ability to perform maintenance, rebuild, & troubleshoot Blasting & Coating equipment.
- Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
- Skilled in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication that includes good listening, providing clear direction and effective feedback.
- Ability to speak, write, read, and interpret the English language.
- Ability to pass Respiratory Fit Test and wear respiratory protection (Full face, ½ Face and Supplied Air Respiratory Protection).
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 or 30 training is preferred.
- 24 Hour Hazwoper Certified

Position may be exposed to extreme weather conditions at times while working outdoors.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at the construction site. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud. Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and waste.
The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles in a mechanical shop environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hard-toe safety footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves are required while working.
