General Description:
The Marine Vessel Preventive Maintenance (PM) Mechanic is a seasonal contract position based at the Alaska Clean Seas (ACS) Spill Response Center, West Dock, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, working under the direction of the Marine Supervisor. The primary responsibility is to provide general and preventive maintenance support for a variety of ACS vessels powered by outboard motors and in-board diesel engines. Daily activities include vessel maintenance, vessel support operations, maintenance of other ACS equipment or facilities, daily vessel and equipment checks, and compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. This position is on-call 24 hours a day while on the North Slope to ensure readiness for response to oil spill emergencies. Job activity includes other work-related duties as assigned.

- All activities while on shift, on call, or attending training, must be conducted in a safe manner, and in compliance with all guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols established by Alaska Clean Seas and by CCI Industrial Services are conditions of employment.
- Safety Accountability:
- Participate in behavior-based safety program.
- Report and address safety concerns/issues/incidents promptly.
- Recognize safe actions of others.
- Reactively and proactively take necessary actions to stop and/or correct unsafe behaviors or conditions.
- Maintain 100% mandatory compliance with required HSE training identified in the ACS Training matrix; participate in all required CCI Industrial Services HSE orientation, training, and testing.
- Facilitate or participate in regular company safety meetings and task related "Tailgate Safety Meetings" which include task hazard recognition, appropriate response, and identified controls.
- Report promptly every injury, near miss, and incidence of fire, equipment or property damage; complete detailed documentation of incidents and safety violations as required.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents as required.
- Work safely and maintain a safe workplace on ACS premises and while providing services on behalf of ACS and CCI Industrial Services at any location; be responsible for your safe performance on the job and protect the safety of others in the workplace.
- Ensure vessels are mechanically and structurally in a ready-for-sea condition and in full compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations.
- Conduct the bi-weekly preventive maintenance (PM) program according to the ACS PM scheduler; perform modifications and repairs to vessels and equipment as assigned.
- Ensure vessels are ready for emergency response at all times. Report any discrepancies or repairs that might affect vessel readiness.
- Assist with the development and implementation of safety, training, and maintenance policies, and best practices and procedures to ensure emergency response in a safe and effective manner.
- Communicate status of current activity to Marine Supervisor throughout the day, to include: procedural questions, mechanical problems, damages, shortages, estimated time of completion, etc.
- Maintain 100% personal "Compliance Readiness" in all areas of mandatory/regulatory requirements.
- Assist with operational, organizational or administrative tasks as directed by the Marine Supervisor.
- Provide feedback on the bi-weekly PM program for continuous improvement.
- Attend and participate in meetings, exercises, drills and training as required.
- Work 12-hour days or longer.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: general labor tasks, other equipment maintenance, and spill technician functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to speak, reading, writing and understand the English language
- Skilled in the maintenance and repair of marine diesel engines with jet, single and twin-screw propulsion systems; OMC outboard maintenance and repair; and vessel systems including electrical and hydraulics

- This is a full-time position assigned to Prudhoe Bay.
- The position is on-call 24 hours/day while on shift. Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job. Position may be reassigned at any time to meet operational objectives.
- Position may be exposed to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors.
- Position subject to USCG Drug & Alcohol testing and reporting regulations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at the construction site. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
- Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and wastes.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles in a mechanical shop environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection and the use of safety eyewear is required in most working situations.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer physical including respirator fit test will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. - MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
- HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
- VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
- LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
- RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
