Director of Operations

This position description identifies the major responsibilities of this job. It does not include all aspects of the position such as the potential additional duties assigned by supervisors and the requirement for flexibility in helping others for the company's overall benefit.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Operations reports to the President and works closely with other functional leaders in the company including those in Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales and Finance. The Director of Operations will lead all Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement, and Supply Chain activities for Marlen manufacturing. The position will drive efficiencies through the use of Lean Manufacturing techniques and ensure consistency of standards, practices, and policies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall strategic direction for scheduling, production capacity and planning to meet on-time delivery.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain and Sales to ensure production schedule is achievable.
  • Provide oversight and guidance in Company Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Promote the growth of the Company's Continuous Improvement and Safety culture.
  • Maintain and continue to develop a Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement staff capable of achieving strategic and annual objectives.
  • Lead the Policy Deployment process with alignment to long-term strategic objectives.
  • Leads implementation of the quality standards in sustainable manner.
  • Prepare and manage production budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing organization.
  • Minimum 5 years in senior management role.
  • An undergraduate degree in engineering, operations, or related field required.
  • Lean or Six Sigma Certification (desired, not mandatory).
  • Demonstrated success and experience in leading a Lean organization.
  • Ability to guide and teach others in the Continuous Improvement tool set.
  • Good understanding of financial measurements.
  • Ability to easily interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Occasional travel is required to support business objectives.
  • Labor relations experience is strongly preferred.

  • Able to schedule, budget, and plan.
  • Continuous improvement leader who can motivate and carry a culture while identifying and pursuing operational efficiencies.

 

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Strong background in highly engineered and customized equipment.
  • Experience with customized manufacturing where engineering services is core competency.
  • Demonstrated success leading Lean; formal training and expertise in Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Disciplined and creative approach to on-time delivery and all aspects of the supply chain.
  • Collaborates with Sales, Marketing, and Service Teams.
  • Understands industry needs and supports sales in the new business opportunities.
  • Enjoys spending time with customers, able to articulate value proposition and production.
