Primary Objective:

Design, develop, and implement automation solutions to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance productivity across various systems and workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, assess feasibility, and prioritize projects based on strategic business objectives. Provide technical expertise and support to troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Major Function and Scope:

  • Creating software based on the company’s standard for new machines or rewriting code of existing machines to improve uptime and efficiency.
  • Functions in a project team handling the software and electrical part of the project.
  • Performs hands-on wiring, assembly, programming and documentation of projects and maintenance repairs.
  • May oversee internal or external technicians in the installation, operations, maintenance, and repair of simple to complex machinery to ensure that machines, equipment, and systems are installed and functioning to company or manufactures’ specifications.
  • Manages manufacturing and systems process improvement projects of entire machines from concept to development through installation, programming, implementation, commissioning, and final documentation.
  • Work with a variety of skilled tradesmen and contractors, assuring projects are completed on time, on budget with the highest degree of quality and workmanship.
  • Supports technicians with diagnosis and repair of broken wires/cables, printed circuit boards, modules, or sensors associated with malfunctioning electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors and controllers, lighting circuits, fixtures, temperature controllers, and AC/DC drive motor controllers, minimizing downtime and increasing efficiency.
  • Will be cooperating with vendors, maintenance, and production staff daily to improve operations.
  • Orders needed parts for replacements or upgrades and checks up on delivery dates.
  • Attend any job-related training deemed necessary by supervision.
  • Create training for both OJT and classroom about important topics deemed necessary by supervision.
  • Follow all established standard operating procedures.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties as necessary.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by management.

Knowledge, Experience, Competencies and Supervision:

  • BS degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of five year’s work experience gained as intern, on-the-job or prior actual work experience at Mohawk or other company or a combination of the above as an engineer.
  • Demonstrated proficiency CAD experience required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in process\control automation.
  • Must have 5 years of proven PLC experience.
  • Should have experience in the use of multi-meters, oscilloscopes, PCs, and other equipment as necessary to troubleshoot and repair industrial automation.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrates good communications skills – oral, written and presentation.
  • Critical thinking, strong time management, complex problem and information processing, attention to detail. Strong PC skills.
  • Should possess the ability to draw and use blueprints to wire, install, build, and troubleshoot electronic and electrical equipment and controls.
  • Should possess the ability to create PLC code for entire machines at an efficient pace.
  • Requires proficiency with a variety of computer programs including AutoCad, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and others. A thorough understanding of PC networking and communication configuration is required.
  • Must be able to pass the NEC (National Electrical Code) Test.
  • Requires the ability to read and write schematics and drawings to specify new or replacement components for equipment.
  • Ability to provide timelines for projects and report to the organization and executive management.
  • Ability to select the right vendor, sensor, solution for complex automation problems and projects.
  • Share the vision of continuous improvement and spotting opportunities for the business.
  • Ability to train other team members through OJT and Classroom training.
  • Must be willing to travel for training or events when deemed necessary.
  • Ability to perform well in a team spanning multiple departments.
  • Display workmanship and cleanliness in the workplace on the job.
