Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Production Operations:  Directs Precision Pattern manufacturing operations including patterning, gridding, and coating operations.   Responsible for production planning, assigning manufacturing and inspection resources, scheduling workload, and coordinating with production control to ensure efficient production and ensure on-time delivery. 

Process Development:  Directs process development and continuous improvement activities for Precision Pattern products.  Responsible for assigning Manufacturing Engineering resources, scheduling workload, and providing technical leadership for development of cost effective manufacturing processes.  Promotes continuous improvement programs to increase productivity and reduce cost, and establishes high standards for process yields.

Quality Assurance:  Directs in-process inspection activities for Precision Pattern manufacturing operations. Responsible for implementing process controls and tracking performance to ensure high process yields and high standards of quality and workmanship.

Program Management, Business Development, Research and Development, Product Development:  Works with the Program Management team to meet customer expectations for quality and on-time delivery.  Works with the Business Development team to develop new business and promote revenue growth.  Responsible for providing production schedules, cost estimates, supporting technical proposals, and supporting business development activities.  Works with the Engineering team to implement R&D programs and develop new products and processes. 

Precision Pattern Operations - Responsible for the success of Precision Pattern Operations. The key metrics associated with this position are Quality, On-time Delivery, and Financial Performance. This includes Warranty Returns, First Pass Yield, Department Scrap, Shop Order Variance, Staff Turnover, Budget Variance, Equipment Uptime, and Profitability. 

Participates in the development of reliable sources of EMI grid technology.  Works with the Materials Management team to evaluate and manage current suppliers. Works with the Engineering team to evaluate current grid technology and process limitations.

 

Education & Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related discipline, preferably in physics, optics, materials science, electrical or mechanical engineering. Master’s degree preferred.

12 years minimum experience in manufacturing operations involving process development and fabrication of optical products; 7 years minimum management experience.

Optics Operations - Responsible for the success of Optics Operations.  The key metrics associated with this position are; Quality, On-time Delivery, and Financial Performance.  This includes Warranty Returns, First Pass Yield, Department Scrap, Shop Order Variance, Staff Turnover, Budget Variance, Equipment Uptime, and Profitability. 

Participates in the development of reliable sources of supply for EMI grid technology and Sapphire material, both related to large Sapphire windows.  Works with the Materials Management team to evaluate and manage current suppliers.  Works with the Engineering team to evaluate current grid technology and process limitations. 

  1. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  2. Strong knowledge/experience in optical fabrication technology.
  3. Hands-on experience in optical metrology including strong knowledge of interferometer technology and capabilities.
  4. Knowledge of CNC Manufacturing and CMM metrology technologies.
  5. Strong leadership skills in process development, production operations, personnel development, and continuous improvement. 
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  7. Strong organizational skills and attention to details required.
  8. Knowledge of military standards for optics and manufacturing quality standards including ISO9000 and AS9100.
  9. Must be capable of receiving and maintaining a US security clearance to support classified government programs.
