Your Duties & Responsibilities

Ownership of day-to-day planning of product batching

  • Creation of production schedules incorporating sales forecasts and scheduled maintenance
  • Modify and issue batch recipes with available technical documentation
  • Review of process data and issuance of batch release documentation
  • Communicate and coordinate plant activities with Production and Materials management and operators.
  • Initiate and participate in plant quality improvement programs
  • Escalate any observed safety risks or concerns to engineering or production management
  • Continuous improvements to decrease batch cycle time, waste, or cost
  • Design and justify experiments to optimize production process parameters
  • SPC control limit review and justification

Troubleshooting and review of non-standard process conditions or batch non-conformances Assist in process troubleshooting in Production (pump, filter, valve, sensor, cell and other equipment diagnostics) with minimal guidance.

  • Data review for root cause identification
  • Short term containment action plans and implementation
  • Long term corrective actions and implementation
  • Participation in customer inquiry requests related to product quality incidents
  • Ownership of process documentation and change
  • Creation of new production procedures and training of operators on changes
  • Participation in Design Review and Technology Transfer activities

Provide technical backup for other production engineers.

Make suggestions to management for improving work processes and employee satisfaction.

Work safely by observing safety rules, policies and procedures. Identify unsafe conditions or actions and communicate to my supervisor.

Other duties as assigned.

Your Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years experience with chemical processing equipment, including pumps, vessels, and filters

  • Advanced Chemical process troubleshooting, trending, and data review, batch or continuous. Familiarity with data analysis and exploration software (JMP, SAS, Minitab, etc)

  • Participation in a statistical process control (SPC) system. Leads trend analysis reviews.

  • Demonstrated experience in a regulated or highly change-controlled industry. Process change justification, design of experiment, and process change implementation.

  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills

  • Demonstrated process safety knowledge and experience

  • Use of a structured problem-solving methodology

  • Use of a maintenance tracking system and the creation or modification of equipment maintenance plans.

  • Use of a document control system and modification of existing documents

  • Intermediate Knowledge of SAP

  • Leads project with minimal guidance

  • Exposure to LEAN principals

  • Ability to work in a team structure

  • Design and coordinate experiments independently

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Adaptability

  • Creative and innovative with customer focus.

Education Qualifications

BS or MS in chemical, mechanical or materials engineering or applicable technical field

Additional Preferred Qualifications

SAP knowledge

OSHA Process Safety Management plant experience

Position Reports To:

Production Engineering Supervisor

Typical Work Hours/Schedule/Location/Travel time

  • Day or swing position

  • Work location; Oregon

  • 5 % travel time expected

Physical Demands

  • Sit approximately 50% of the day creating batch recipes/analyzing data and engineering work in front of a video monitor.

  • Daily presence on plant floor interacting with chemical operators; performing improvement direct observations, safety management, and cleanliness reviews
