Mechanical Operator I (2nd Shift 3:30 pm – 12:00 am)

Job Summary:

Mechanical Operators will provide effective, efficient high-quality assemblies as required by production work orders. You will be expected to inspect work and make necessary adjustments to correct difficulties, perform basic electrical checks and use precision measuring instruments to verify work quality. You will work from detailed drawings, work instructions, specifications and production control documents. 


Job Responsibilities: 

  • Work in a manner that meets or exceeds established effectivity goals of the facility.
  • Manufacture high-quality products meeting quality specifications and workmanship standards.
  • Be able to perform one or multiple of the following tasks to varying skill levels:
    1. Surface Preparation:
      • Buffing, polishing, abrasive blasting, and solvent cleaning of metal surfaces.
      • Ultrasonic cleaning/vapor degreasing.
      • High-temperature cleaning.
    2. Bonding:
      • Layout for strain gauge positioning.
      • Strain gauge and tab trimming and application.
      • Preparation and curing of adhesives.
    3. Etching:
      • Laser and electro-chemical etching of data on metal surfaces.
      • Creation of laser etch template.
      • Preparation of electro-chemical etching stencils.
    4. Mechanical Operations:
      • Mechanical parts forming, using manual or automated presses.
      • Pressure parts forming, using compressed gas.
      • Assemble fittings to products.
      • Basic mechanical assembly using fasteners.
      • Operation of a basic heat-treating furnace.
  • Inspect own work and make adjustments to correct difficulties.
  • Perform basic electrical checks and use precision measuring instruments to verify work quality.
  • Work from detailed drawings, work instructions, specifications, and production control documents.
  • Possess basic computer skills; perform data entry for production reporting and attendance and retrieve information electronically.
  • Ensures proper waste disposal procedures are followed for handling residual and/or hazardous waste.  
  • Places waste in the properly labeled container(s), follows safety procedures, uses proper PPE, attends training, and reports any spills.
  • Other assignments as required.

 

Competencies Required:   

 

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have 20/20 vision with correction, and no color blindness, steady hands with good dexterity.
  • Ability to carry/lift up to 35 lbs. (10% of the time).
  • Ability to learn and apply basic technical concepts.
  • Able to communicate effectively with management and co-workers to promote strong working relationships and create an environment focused on teamwork.
  • Physical Requirements: The daily physical requirements for this position are broken down as follows: CONTINUOUS (75-100% of shift): Sitting and remaining awake and alert at all times. FREQUENT (25-75% of shift): Walking, standing OCCASIONAL (1-25% of shift): Stooping, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching above shoulders.
