EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school education is required. Associate degree is preferred. Requires experience in production operations involving a variety of machines, equipment, and tooling. Knowledge of the principles of supervision, leadership, cost control, quality control, industrial safety, and related functions is essential. Must have some understanding of performance standards and data collection. Previous experience in supervision and training of production personnel is desirable.
ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION: Under the general direction of the Production Manager, supervise activities in production areas involving machine operations and processing. Coordinate work assignments and shift personnel to meet production schedules. Maintain check on production quality and output, operation and condition of equipment, and machines and tooling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Train subordinate personnel, explain policies and procedures, maintain discipline and ensure adherence to safety and good housekeeping regulations. Recommend change in size of department work force, dismissals, transfers, and upgrading. Establish good personnel relations and ensure continuous maintenance of high morale, efficiency and harmonious operations. Work closely with Production Manager and the Human Resource Department to resolve the more serious personnel problems. Evaluate personnel performance in accordance with established procedures.
Supervise various production activities involving operation of extruders, wire draws, band markers, twinners, and other equipment involved in the Rod Breakdown, Insulating, and Twinning processes. Maintain continuous check on the status of machines, tooling, control instruments, safety devices, and accessory equipment. Request repairs and adjustments and personally make minor repairs and adjustments in emergencies. Make spot checks on setups.
Make job assignments at the start of each shift, and arrange for setups in accordance with production schedules. Check adequacy of the work force and coordinate with the Production Manager in working out inter-departmental transfers of personnel or for hiring of additional personnel. Assign operators on the basis of classification, capabilities and seniority. Schedule special work along with regular production runs adhering closely to production schedules. Verify accuracy of subordinates' reporting both labor hours and production output.
Keep informed on supply of parts and materials at all times, coordinating with other departments to maintain work flow. Maintain check on quality of work produced. Investigate and follow up on sub-standard work, scrap and rework and take corrective action. Ensure compliance with setup and operational specifications.
Maintain check on production output throughout the day. Help subordinates overcome operational difficulties and assign indirect labor time when necessary. Ensure that information, such as, production and quality reports, hours worked and performance standards are properly reported for data collection.
Work continuously toward improving quality and reducing costs. Make recommendations to the Production Manager for improving products, methods, equipment, machines and tooling. Work closely with Production Manager, Engineering, Quality Control and others on various programs involving quality improvement and cost reduction.
Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Initiative, good judgment, planning and decision making are necessary in maintaining production output and quality, handling personnel problems, resolving difficulties with machine, equipment, tooling and materials, and working up recommendations for improvements, in methods, quality, cost and safety.
COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with good keyboarding skills.
