Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supports, maintains, administers and assists/trains end users with various computer systems, applications and servers.  Works under minimal supervision.  Notifies senior analyst/supervisor of common problems and recommended solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides user assistance over the phone and in person, as well as technical support and training for end users.
  2. Troubleshoots and diagnoses computer hardware issues and is familiar with all functioning internal hardware including motherboard, memory, disk drives, CD ROMs floppy drives, sound cards, video cards and internal and external modems.
  3. Resolves hardware/software problems and assists users with training issues in a LAN/WAN environment.  Tests and coordinates LAN/WAN expansion in a local environment and at remote sites.
  4. Administers and supports servers, internet connectivity devices and firewalls by performing basic administration functions including adding/deleting users/mailboxes, creating groups, monitoring system events and performing basic maintenance.
  5. Performs system backups and maintains backup library.
  6. Deploys computer workstations and peripherals, including installing and supporting computer software.
  7. Monitors and controls the operation of all telecommunications equipment necessary to support LAN/WAN operations including cabling, routers, bridges and frame relay components.
  8. Establishes and coordinates communication equipment maintenance schedules and assists vendors in performing maintenance.
  9. Maintains network equipment including bridges, routers, CSU/DSUs, modems, peripherals and telecommunications equipment.
  10. Maintains and supports hardware/software for video conferencing with ability to diagnose connection problems and resolve multiple site configuration issues.
  11. Evaluates systems, researches and tests new and existing technology for continual improvement and makes recommendations based on results.  Participates in testing of major systems and changes.  Implements hardware and software upgrades as assigned.
  12. Provides technical support in solving in-plant computer malfunctions and assures minimal service interruption to end users in the event of system failure.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associates Degree in computer science or related field and at least six (6) years experience working with computers in a network environment.  Must have the ability to work well with people at various levels within the organization.  Must have working knowledge of computer systems, network and server operations.  Knowledge of hardware and/or software products and of one or more operating systems and environments required.  Knowledge of applications development languages that support major business systems running on server environments required.  Must be conversant in data communications terminology and principles.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work will take place in an office/shop environment.  Employee may be required to work weekends, holidays and be on-call on occasion.  While performing the duties of this job, employees will be exposed to mechanical or chemical processes requiring the use of personal protective equipment.  The employee may encounter controlled air conditions with frequent air changes, environmental exposure, and lift up to 30 pounds.
