JOB SUMMARY:

 The CAD Designer/Drafter is responsible for developing conceptual designs, reviewing drawings, and providing support to the engineering team in developing custom products and services, including air pollution control systems and other air handling systems for the metals industry. This role will design project-specific items to be manufactured by our Company and other companies. The CAD Designer/Drafter will facilitate internal workflow as required. This position involves collaborating in person and remotely with project management and engineering professionals to develop design concepts and engineering documents.

  • Performs basic engineering analysis, design, and detailing of project plans and material quantities 
  • Experience in the Steel (structural, tanks & piping) and ASTM drafting standards
  • Research and review project requirements and design information to determine if it is sufficient to complete the design while ensuring that the design concept can be met.
  • Assists with preparing standard engineering documents and calculations, using Autodesk Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD for drafting and design purposes.
  • Coordinates with the Project Manager and Engineers to establish essential functions and deadlines necessary to finish specific projects.
  • Determines appropriate methods to create drawings using either a CAD template customized to the client’s requirements, a standard template designed for the specific type of work, or by updating an existing CAD file.
  • Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, tests, existing and proposed characteristics, and other design data to plan and design projects.
  • Completes the drawing process using the information contained within the documents and in line with the Scope of Work; make necessary corrections to existing drawings following quality review process.
  • Review drawings from other drafters to ensure alignment with scoping and corporate drafting standards.
  • Assists project managers with the preparation of work scopes and estimates for projects.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

An associate degree in Drafting or CAD Technology with 3-5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above (8 years of demonstrated experience in a mechanical engineering field in lieu of degree). Working knowledge & experience with Autodesk Inventor, Vault & AutoCAD.
