Construction Field Engineer Summer Intern

Now recruiting for 2025 construction Field Engineer interns.  This position will work onsite at a project located in the Midwest.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Field Engineer Intern is responsible for assisting and supporting the activities of a construction project site in order to ensure projects meet goals related to schedule and budget.

DUTIES: 

Office Responsibilities:

  • Track man hour reports
  • Update procurement logs
  • Project progress tracking by % complete for concrete, structural steel, mechanical and electrical trades
  • Assist with completing material requisitions and ordering of miscellaneous materials
  • Attend project meetings learning what priorities are during project execution
  • Attend vendor meetings and learn how to negotiate prices and costs
  • Assist project Manager or site management with Project Schedule updates as requested
  • Assist Field Engineer or contractors with unloading and proper staging of equipment as it arrives onsite
  • Distribute procured equipment and materials to contractors and update procurement log 
  • Study and understand the Ethanol production process and the specific Project process
  • Assist with Change Order tracking, Extra Work and Re-work authorization forms and estimating potential financial impact of changes

Assist Site Superintendent, Electrical Superintendent and Field Engineer with overseeing contractors, directing and unloading trucks, and ensuring specifications are met.

Verify Installation and Equipment Placing:

  • Walk down lines with P&ID’s to verify what piping and instrumentation has been installed
  • Verify concrete and soil compaction tests
  • Verify distillation trays are installed correctly and assist with install as needed
  • Verify concrete layouts match the structural engineering prints prior to concrete placement
  • Verify structural steel components are installed per specifications
  • Verify equipment orientations match specifications and installed in accordance with prints

Safety:

  • Perform safety walks to locate and identify violations – immediately remedy situation and notify ICM Superintendents of deficiencies promptly
  • Daily checks to make sure all safety policies and procedures are being followed

Education/Certification:

Enrolled in college program related to Construction Management, Construction Science or other related technical field required
