Job Summary 

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for all activities related to the procurement of goods and materials and directing the day-to-day activities of the purchasing team.  With a strong background in purchasing and supply chain management, the candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations, and implementing changes. 


Main Responsibilities

  • Ensuring adherence to company purchasing policies, procedures and all regulatory and compliance programs.
  • Defining and managing performance metrics (KPI’s) for internal team and external suppliers. 
  • Responsible for management and execution of supplier contracts; ensuring buyers award purchase orders based on negotiated prices. 
  • Driving the execution of contracts and pricing agreements as negotiated by the strategic sourcing function.
  • Defining and implementing inventory strategies to achieve inventory turn targets while maintaining on-time delivery performance.
  • Identifying opportunities and developing plans to achieve cost reductions.
  • Responsible for material master updates and other systems maintenance within purchasing.
  • Providing direction to and managing and developing direct reports.  
  • Responsible for performance management process, including annual review and development plans. 
  • Driving continuous improvement activities to maximize team performance.   
  • Developing standard procedures and work instructions, and training team to those standards.

Qualifications

  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and quickly; ability to manage more than one initiative at once. 
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Ten years’ experience in Purchasing or Supply Chain Management with three years in a supervisory role.
  •  Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based systems
  • APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent training preferred.
