Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Job Placement Specialist will coordinate and ensure quality employment services to the blind and visually impaired (BVI) community. A person-centered approach will be utilized to provide hands-on instruction and guidance geared towards vocational rehabilitation and a suitable job placement based on the desires and needs of the individual and the employer.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides quality assurance with client files according to Vibrant Works and applicable contract standards
- Develops individualized service plan and directs the plan implementation through completion
- Prepares the client in job search activities to include, resume building, job search, job application, interviewing, developing job skills and computer training
- Coordinates and conducts employment/job skills classes designed to develop employment readiness
- Performs job analysis to match individual client abilities and limitations with specific job requirements and educates the employer about specific accommodations for the individual
- Recommends additional or supplemental rehabilitation services needed to enhance an individual's employment readiness and/or quality of life
- Performs on-site job coaching and provides support for client and employer post-employment placement
- Documents client progress and maintains files according to Vibrant Works, state, and federal requirements
- Maintains statistical data and provides feedback regarding successful placements
- Coordinates services with state vocational rehabilitation counselors
- Coordinates services under the Ticket to Work Program
- Coordinates services for internal Vibrant Works employees as needed
- Transports programs consumers via agency vehicle and/or assists with para-transit systems
- Performs outreach, sensitivity to blindness training, and assists in recruitment of new clients by creating partnerships with schools, employment programs and other applicable partners
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in rehabilitation or related field
- 1-3 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation with BVI
- Knowledge of blindness and other disabilities
- Knowledge of BVI, assistive technology, and ADA requirements
- Experience facilitating group and outreach presentations
- The University of North Texas (UNT) Workplace Inclusion and Suitable Employment (WISE) Texas Job Placement Credential required within 6 months of hired date.
- Suitability clearance for Social Security’s Ticket to Work program and Ticket to Work completed training required within 3 months of hired date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual: English/Spanish
- 1-3 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation with BVI
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Public speaking and presentation skills required
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with potential employers/partners
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, including an ability to communicate and work effectively with persons with disabilities
- Ability to initiate, coordinate and organize activities independently
- Proficient in Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to consistently lift 10 pounds with the occasional need to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to conduct repetitive motions on a daily basis
