Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, this position will perform industrial engineering duties such as developing facility layouts, job analysis and CI projects. This position will also actively participate in cost reduction, quality, and productivity improvement programs to continuously improve product cost and integrity.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Industrial Engineer reports to the Director of Operations, who reports directly to the Vice-President of L.A. Darling Company. There are no direct reports to the Industrial Engineer.
The essential functions of the job are:
- Effectively and efficiently ensure that labor standards that are set are accurate assessment of all elements that are built into the standard.
- Consistently seek out the most cost effective and ergonomically suited work process/layout and designs that maximize capital and human assets.
- Act as a resource to manufacturing and distribution management to include technical support and training as required.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Actively participate in the coordination and implementation of facility cost reduction programs.
- Develop facility workplace layouts, coordinating all move sequences to attain ultimate process flow.
- Develops and implements accurate work standards to reflect proper product cost. Develop and maintain allowance structures for direct labor operations and labor cost estimates as required for new products or process opportunities.
- Provide audit and product cost tracking on product(s)/processes within area of responsibility.
- Performs machine/department capacity/utilization analyses as required within area of responsibility.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to accurately work on detailed analysis for long durations of time.
- Must be able to effectively analyze and communicate verbally and in writing to individuals and groups at all levels within the division.
- Technical aptitude that is utilized in complex analysis of work process design that optimizes facility and human asset utilization. Conceptual ability in formulating ideas into actionable implementation in the shortest period while maintaining high quality output.
- Thorough understanding of ergonomics and safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Skill experience in M.O.S.T., spreadsheet software, S.P.C., MRPII project management and J.I.T. principles. These skills are used in setting work standards and workplace layout design.
- Capital project development and implementation using state of the art project management tools.
- Ability to wear safety equipment in required areas and move to multi-level platforms.
- Ability to travel by car or plane whenever required, day or night.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. degree in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or a minimum of five (5) years of equivalent experience in a related manufacturing environment.
- Preferred: One (1) to three (3) years of related experience.
