Job Summary

 

The Laboratory Technician under general direction and guidance is responsible for metallurgical, wet chemistry, and mechanical testing of materials in order to comply with company and customer requirements.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Preparing samples for metallurgical examinations and analysis including, but not limited to, cutting and sectioning, manual metallographic preparation, microstructure, grain size, and near surface analysis for inspection and photography.
  • Checks test samples for dimensions using precision metrology equipment.
  • Evaluate and inspect fusion and resistance welds.
  • Microscopy and digital photomicrography using digital analysis software.
  • Perform destructive and mechanical testing, such as tensile, bend, and hardness tests.
  • Evaluate cleaning solution concentrations by titration and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Monitors all work to ensure quality standards are maintained and adherence to all specifications and requirements.
  • Work with the department M&P engineer on quality, production, process improvements, and failure analysis.
  • Maintain related test equipment, tools, and machinery.
  • Summarize test results using basic mathematical calculations and data reductions in certificate of tests using Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

 

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • 2 years metallurgical lab experience preferred or equivalent combination of related manufacturing and aerospace experience.

  • Ability to interpret drawings, aerospace specifications, testing requirements and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to use standard manufacturing measuring instruments such as calipers, pin calipers, micrometers, tape measures, scales, height gauges, depth gauges, etc
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to perform quality work in a safe manner while using hazardous chemicals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
